First Calgary Financial

Written by Thrive

As a local credit union First Calgary Financial is committed to being a good community member that positively contributes to the social fabric of the Calgary Region. To nurture a strong, local, sustainable economy we look at our business decisions through social, economic and environmental lenses. For example, our innovative five-year strategic plan is guided by Social, Environmental and Economic Promises. It’s how we do business.

We pride ourselves on being a member-owned cooperative, where our decision making is controlled locally. In addition to our structure and business decision-making models, we further the development of community economic development (CED) initiatives in our city, by strategically investing in non-profit organizations who are working on improving Financial Literacy and CED.

Calgary’s Plan for Resiliency

Thrive was thrilled to host 2 sold out events with Calgary Economic Development in early November!

We explored the goals of Calgary’s 10-year economic development strategy and discussed how using a community economic development approach can help make the plan a success.

The report highlights opportunities for action that businesses can begin to pursue right away. Read it here: Community Economic Development: Calgary’s Plan for Resiliency.

Evaluate to Celebrate

Evaluate to Celebrate: Thrive’s First Annual Community Reflections Gathering

Its been almost a full year since Thrive launched its strategic map, and now we want to know: How are we doing?

We began truly organizing ourselves like a network and are wondering: What relationships and resources have you developed as a result?

We hosted several learning events and would like to know: How are these gatherings helping you do your work better?

Please join us on Thursday, December 15th at The Headspace for an afternoon of looking back as we reflect on your year of participation in Thrive: Calgary’s Community Economic Development Network. The learning from this day will help us update our strategic map and refine our work so that we can be that much better!

One of the goals of this event is to update our Strategic Map. If you haven’t read it in a while, or ever, you can download and read our 2011-2013 Strategic Map here.

Here is a brief outline of what we have planned for the afternoon:

  • 1pm – Summary of this year’s work and what has been accomplished
  • 1:30-4pm – Gathering your reflections and stories of participation in Thrive
  • 4pm onwards – If you can, please stay for a celebration reception (mingle and enjoy delicious food and refreshments as we wind down a busy year)
Please RSVP by December 9th. Register here.
We look forward to seeing you there!
